Addons on Project Ascension

Conquest of Azeroth runs on the Project Ascension client, based on World of Warcraft patch 3.3.5 (Wrath of the Lich King). This means most addons built for WotLK 3.3.5 are compatible, but Ascension maintains its own curated addon library through the launcher for guaranteed compatibility. Using launcher-approved addons minimizes crashes, UI errors, and conflicts with CoA's custom interface elements.

The Ascension Launcher provides one-click addon installation from a tested and maintained repository. This is the recommended starting point for all CoA players. Additional addons can be sourced from community sites, but exercise caution with untested packages.

Installing Addons via the Launcher

Open the Ascension Launcher and navigate to the Addons section. Browse the curated list, click install on desired addons, and launch the game. The launcher handles file placement automatically. After installing, log into CoA and type /reload in chat to refresh the UI if addons do not appear immediately.

Switch to the Mods tab in the same menu for localization patches (German, Spanish) and HD texture packs. These are separate from gameplay addons but enhance the experience for non-English players.

Recommended Addons for CoA

These addon categories improve the CoA experience significantly. Check the launcher first — many are pre-integrated.

• Unit Frames: Enhanced player, target, and party frames for clearer health and resource tracking
• Action Bars: Bartender or Dominos for customizable ability layouts — essential with 21 unique class kits
• Damage Meters: Details! or Skada for parsing DPS/HPS in dungeons and raids
• Quest Helpers: Questie or equivalent for tracking objectives in expanded Azeroth zones
• Map Enhancement: AtlasLoot for dungeon loot tables and Atlas for zone maps
• Auction House: Auctioneer for price tracking when buying Travel Guides with gold
• Talent Tools: Simulation addons for planning talent tree investments

Manual Installation from External Sites

If the launcher does not include an addon you need, manual installation is possible. Download the 3.3.5-compatible version from CurseForge, WoWInterface, or legacy-wow.com. Extract the addon folder into your Ascension WoW AddOns directory. Find this path via Launcher → Settings → Installation Folder.

Never download addons from untrusted sources. Incompatible addons can cause UI errors, prevent login, or conflict with CoA custom spells and talent interfaces. When in doubt, ask in the Ascension Discord #addons channel.

Addons and CoA Custom Features

CoA introduces custom talent trees, new resource types, and unique UI elements that some addons may not recognize. The Auto-Build talent feature is built into CoA natively — no addon required. Custom class resources (Life Force, Carnage, Insanity, etc.) may not display on standard unit frames until addon authors add CoA support.

Report addon compatibility issues in the CoA development Discord. The community actively maintains updated addon lists for each testing phase.

Troubleshooting

If addons cause errors, disable all addons and re-enable one at a time to identify conflicts. Delete the WTF folder in your Ascension WoW directory to reset all addon settings (this resets keybinds too). Ensure you are using the PTR client addons folder when playing on CoA PTR, not the live realm folder.
