Molten Core

Molten Core raid guide for Conquest of Azeroth — Tier 1 progression, Ragnaros, August 8 2026 Vol'jin timeline window, four flex difficulties (10–25), three legendaries, CoA creature overhaul trash, and loot through Ascended difficulty.

Molten Core at Launch

Molten Core is Conquest of Azeroth's entry raid on the July 2026 Vol'jin launch — ten bosses culminating in Ragnaros. Tier 1 set pieces drop from specific encounters and combine into bonuses that significantly boost class performance across all 21 custom kits.

CoA updates Molten Core with rebalanced trash reflecting the RPG creature overhaul — linked aggro, patrol additions, and new mechanics on familiar bosses like Garr and Baron Geddon. Plan interrupt assignments per class kit after the June 2026 crowd control redesign.

August 8, 2026 Timeline Window

The official Ascension Vol'jin timeline lists Molten Core on August 8, 2026 — the day after Mythic+ 10 and the day before Onyxia. All four flex difficulties (Normal, Heroic, Mythic, Ascended) support 10–25 players, with three legendary items inside the raid. Focus guide: Molten Core Mid-August Focus.

Keep Zul'Gurub as Priority 1 if Hakkar weapons are contested. Slot MC as a second raid night. The Heroic shrine ladder closed August 15 with Heroic Atal'zul — those altars are catch-up now. Week plan: Late-August Checklist.

Four Flex Difficulty Tiers

Normal and Heroic teach core mechanics for first clears and alt lockouts. Mythic and Ascended add new boss mechanics, tighter checks, and best-in-slot loot — see Ascended Raids before pushing beyond Heroic.

Key Boss Mechanics

Lucifron / Magmadar / Gehennas: Early bosses teach spread positioning and curse dispels. Assign decurse rotations — Witch Doctor, Sun Cleric, and Starcaller specs excel.

Garr / Baron Geddon: Add management and bomb assignments. AoE DPS specs (Barbarian Brutality, Necromancer Animation) shine; tanks swap on Garr adds.

Golemagg / Sulfuron / Majordomo: Interrupt chains matter on heal and buff casts. Support specs (Guardian Inspiration, Ranger Farstrider) maintain group amplification through longer encounters.

Ragnaros (August 15 tuning): He now starts the encounter at 30% health (was 40%) with the same remaining HP — the execute window is longer. Phase transitions still demand burst timing and son kill priority. Stock fire resistance; spread for knockback and lava splash. Runemasters should open Ice + Wind after the Weapon Engraving rework.

Composition and Preparation

Standard 40-player composition: 4–6 tanks (Guardian Vanguard, Sun Cleric Seraphim, Felsworn Tyrant), 8–10 healers, 2–4 Support specs, remainder DPS with AoE for trash and single-target for bosses.

Pre-raid checklist: enchants on weapon and boots, flasks from alchemy, essence loadouts tuned for fire damage zones, voice comms for bomb and son callouts. Clear Normal and Heroic before pushing Mythic or Ascended tiers.
