Why Alts Matter in Conquest of Azeroth

Conquest of Azeroth's 21-class roster is too large to main a single character. Each class has two to four specializations with distinct roles, and most raid compositions benefit from at least one Support, one tank, and one ranged caster. Smart players keep at least two alts in the 50–60 range so they can swap roles for raid nights and Mythic+ groups without respeccing their main.

The game also encourages alt progression through account-wide Master Warchest unlocks, a shared Honor pool, and Heroic altars that grant raid-tier loot to characters below the recommended item level for the encounter. With the right route you can take a fresh alt from 1 to 60 in roughly six focused play sessions.

Fast 1–60 Leveling Route

The fastest alt route in CoA pairs quest-dense zones with dungeon spam. Use the Group Finder to queue for Blackrock Caverns and Stockpile while waiting for travel-permit quest turn-ins. Don't forget the /guides/travel-permit-leveling/ route to unlock the Dungeon Finder before level 15 — it cuts total time to 60 by about 30 percent.

• Levels 1–10: Starter zone story quests only — skip side content.
• Levels 10–20: Travel Permit chain, then Blackrock Caverns normals and quest hubs.
• Levels 20–40: Dungeon spam queue (Scarlet Monastery, Zul'Farrak, Maraudon) plus zone quest chains.
• Levels 40–55: Sunken Temple and BRD normals, plus Wildvine drops from any ZG-related catch-up event.
• Levels 55–60: Heroic dungeon queue for full XP plus pre-raid item level.

Catch-up Gear and Heroic Altars

Once your alt is 60, the Heroic World Boss altars become the single most efficient gear source. Each Heroic altar drops 385-equivalent gear and accepts any character of appropriate faction. Ladder guilds sell seats for a flat gold fee; join the Conquest Discord's catch-up channel to find runs during the August ladder.

Mythic+ Keystone 10 caches also serve as catch-up — they reward the same items as Ascended raid loot for the equivalent slot. A weekly Keystone 10 run plus one Heroic altar trip will put a fresh 60 within reach of Heroic raid entry item level within two weeks.

Account-Wide Unlocks

Several CoA features unlock once per account and then become available to every alt. Master Warchest and Vanity Sync are claim-once-per-character but stack per account. Shared Honor and Conquest currency allow main-funded gear purchases for alts.

Prestige ranks also persist across alts: a Prestige 3 main unlocks the third essence slot for every alt on the account, which dramatically shortens the catch-up path for new classes. Banking Prestige and currency before swapping mains is the single highest-impact long-term alt strategy.

• Master Warchest: Claim once per character — claim on your first three alts to keep the bundle fresh.
• Shared Honor: Pool Honor from main to fund alts' PvP gear purchases.
• Prestige 3 essence slot: Unlocks for all alts once your main hits Prestige 3.
• Conquest currency: Spend on alts via the Conquest quartermaster in Orgrimmar / Stormwind.

Choosing Which Class to Alt

Pick alts that complement your main's role. If your main is a melee DPS, an alt tank or healer slots into groups much faster than another DPS. If your main is a Support, an alt ranged DPS balances the comp. Beginners should prioritize the alt role most lacking in their guild's roster — talk to your raid leader before committing.

For the fastest leveling experience, choose a class with strong AoE and self-healing: Pyromancer, Necromancer, Bloodmage, or Witch Doctor scale smoothly through 1–60. Avoid Support specs as a first leveling alt since they level slower and require a friendlier group composition to shine.

Daily Alt Routine

Spend 20 minutes per alt on the daily catch-up routine: complete the daily Callboard quest, run one Mythic+ dungeon, vendor trash, repair gear, and queue for one battleground if Honor is below your weekly cap. This routine compounds over a few weeks and keeps your roster ready to swap in for any group slot.
