PvP Honor Ranks on Vol'jin

Conquest of Azeroth honor rank ladder — ranks 1 through 14, weekly honor, decay, Season 1 PvP Progression rewards, and how battlegrounds and arenas feed the classic 1.12 honor system.

Two Tracks: Honor Ranks and Season Rating

Vol'jin runs two PvP tracks at once. Honor ranks are the classic 1.12 ladder — weekly honor, standing, and decay, with ranks from Private / Scout up to Grand Marshal / High Warlord. PvP Progression Season 1 (live since July 11, 2026) is a separate rating track that unlocks epic PvP gear from arena and rated battlegrounds. You can climb both. They do not replace each other.

This page is the rank ladder. Season rules, MMR reset, and recommended specs live on the PvP Progression feature guide.

Alliance and Horde Rank Names

Ranks 1–14 use the vanilla names. Titles, rank tabards, and officer privileges unlock at the same breakpoints as 1.12. CoA adds Season 1 gear on top; it does not skip ranks.

  • Rank 1: Private / Scout
  • Rank 2: Corporal / Grunt
  • Rank 3: Sergeant / Sergeant — first rank PvP trinket and discounted repairs
  • Rank 4: Master Sergeant / Senior Sergeant
  • Rank 5: Sergeant Major / First Sergeant
  • Rank 6: Knight / Stone Guard — officer chat and first mount discount
  • Rank 7: Knight-Lieutenant / Blood Guard
  • Rank 8: Knight-Captain / Legionnaire
  • Rank 9: Knight-Champion / Centurion
  • Rank 10: Lieutenant Commander / Champion
  • Rank 11: Commander / Lieutenant General
  • Rank 12: Marshal / General
  • Rank 13: Field Marshal / Warlord
  • Rank 14: Grand Marshal / High Warlord — limited slots, weekly standing only

How Weekly Honor Works

Honor earned this week becomes rank progress next Tuesday reset. Standing is relative — you compete against everyone else on Vol'jin, not against a fixed number. High ranks require both a large honor pile and a high standing. If you skip a week, decay pulls you down one rank at the top of the ladder.

Battlegrounds are the reliable honor engine. Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, and Alterac Valley all count. Level-bracket queues (19 / 29 / 39) still award honor and are covered in the bracket PvP guide. Open-world Hybrid Risk kills award honor too, but they are streaky — do not plan a rank-14 push on world PvP alone.

  • Ranks 1–6: a few battleground evenings per week is enough
  • Ranks 7–10: treat PvP as a second main activity — several nights, premade if you can
  • Ranks 11–14: daily play, premade AV / AB, and no skipped reset. Rank 14 is a server-wide race

What Each Rank Is For

Most PvE players stop around Rank 3–5 for the trinket and cheap repairs, then switch to Season 1 rating for actual PvP itemization. Rank 11+ is a lifestyle. Do not chase Field Marshal on a character you still need for Molten Core and Zul'Gurub the same week.

Season 1 epic pieces do not require a high honor rank. Honor rank cosmetics, titles, and a few legacy PvP weapons still do. If you only want the Season 1 chest and weapon, queue rated arena and ignore standing. If you want the Grand Marshal title, you need the weekly ladder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Season 1 rating replace honor ranks?

No. Rating unlocks Season 1 epic gear. Honor ranks still grant titles, tabards, and classic rank rewards.

When does honor reset?

Tuesday maintenance, the same window as the world-boss rotation and Mythic+ affixes.

Can alts share honor?

Account-wide honor marks from PvP Progression can fund alt gear. Classic rank standing is per character.

Is Rank 14 realistic for a casual player?

No. Plan for Rank 5–8 if you PvP a few nights a week. Rank 14 is a full-time push.
